Michael Alexander with his book, On The WIngs of Eternity, Memory of Life, Love and War

In 2021, Michael Alexander began a personal journey to uncover the life of his father who died during World War II. He intended to create a written record for his children and grandchildren. The endeavor, however, evolved into a much larger project—a discovery of a time and place that mirrored the challenges we face today, and a legacy from which others could learn.

On The Wing of Eternity (Casper Press, 2025), is the story of Jimmy Alexander, son of a British Army General and grandson of the Bishop of Quebec. Raised in a period of peace between the world wars, he pursued a life like any other young man of his time—school, sports, and dreams of the future. However, that future changed forever in September 1939, when war was declared. At 21, Jimmy became a bomber pilot in Britain’s Royal Air Force.

The book focuses on a single day—August 28, 1941—at Attlebridge airbase in Norfolk, England. With his mission delayed by weather, Jimmy reflects on his past, his sense of duty, and the loved ones he may never see again.

This is a story about sacrifice, service, and the power of memory. It is about one young man’s experience during World War II, and honors a legacy shaped by both history and heart.

Michael will be joined by his daughter Nan Doyal, Founder of Casper Press, and the publisher of “On The Wing of Eternity.” They will discuss his learnings and insights from that time in history, some lessons for us today, and how the book came to be.
