On Jan. 15, 2009, Capt. Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger (Tom Hanks) tries to make an emergency landing in New York’s Hudson River after US Airways Flight 1549 strikes a flock of geese. Miraculously, all of the 155 passengers and crew survive the harrowing ordeal, and Sullenberger becomes a national hero in the eyes of the public and the media. Despite the accolades, the famed pilot now faces an investigation that threatens to destroy his career and reputation.

As a salesperson, travel was a key requirement of the job. As a result, Vallie was a passenger on US Airways Flight 1549 that landed in New York’s Hudson River on January 15, 2009. Vallie will share the details of her experience during the flight and rescue of the event that has become known as the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’. In addition, she will share key learnings from the experience that will hopefully inspire and motivate all to treasure each and each day because ‘everyday is a lucky day!’
About the Speaker
Vallie Smith Collins resides in Friendsville, Tennessee. She is married and has three children. She serves on the board of New Hope Children’s Advocacy Center and is the board chair for Love One International which works to serve malnourished children in Uganda. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. For over nineteen years she was employed in the medical device and consumer products industry. Interests and hobbies include tennis, strength training, and spending time with family and friends.
