Artificial Intelligence in Action: Recent Developments & Impacts
Wednesday, March 12 | 3:00pm
Heidi McKee Professor & Author
Heidi McKee will briefly recap—in layperson terms—how artificial intelligence (AI) systems work and then focus on developments and impacts of AI in the past year. Her presentation will share and explore case examples of fascinating real-world benefits (including research she conducted), challenging harms (voice and image cloning are the tip of the iceberg), and some events that are just oddly perplexing (such as an AI robot delivering a college commencement address). Underlying her discussion will be core questions about how humans can harness AI technologies ethically and safely, what sort of future we face, and what we can do to help shape that future.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Heidi McKee is the co-author and editor of five books and 35+ chapters and articles. For the past several years her research has focused on artificial intelligence, examining such issues as AI communication ethics, the role of rhetorical intelligence, and the dynamics of human-machine teaming in writing. Her current project, to be co-conducted with Miami University undergraduates and commencing in Fall 2024, is an interview-based study on the use and impacts of AI across various professions.
