Engage

Mission & History

Welcome to the Friends of Boca Grande Community Center

Founded in 1986, Friends of Boca Grande is a non-profit organization with a mission to present outstanding cultural and educational programs for Boca Grande.

From world-class concert and jazz series to dynamic lectures, workshops, and community celebrations, we provide one-of-a-kind programming that fosters engagement and brings people together.

The Boca Grande School served the community for 36 years from 1929-1965. For eight years, the building began to deteriorate, as windows were broken, the elements damaged floors and walls. The once proud school became a public eyesore and a target for repeated vandalism.

Our Community Center: Where Boca Grande Comes Together

While our building, formerly The Boca Grande School (1929), still holds its historic charm, the facilities have been renovated and upgraded to best suit the needs of our island community.

The Auditorium

The auditorium is a 172 seat venue used for lectures, concerts, musicals, assemblies, movies, and meetings. In 2019, a major upgrade to the projector and lighting system was made, which has upped the ability for top of the line productions.

The Woman’s Club Room

An activity/meeting room equipped with projector, sound, and a kitchen space is used for many study groups, demonstrations, book signings, and small receptions. The space is also used as a simulcast space providing overflow from the auditorium.

The Houghton Room

Formerly used as a small library and resource center, the Houghton Room now houses small group meetings, bridge play, tap class, theatre rehearsals, yoga, and more.

The Special Interest Room

This room is great for groups of 10-15. Located near the back-stage door of the auditorium, the special interest room is often used as a dressing/green room for artists or staging for events.

The Friends Pavilion

Constructed in 2018, The Friends Pavilion is our covered outdoor stage area with lawn seating.
